Indonesian telecom XL (Excelcomindo Pratama) has initiated its commercial 3G service - XL3G - in Jakarta, making it the second local telecom, after Telkomsel, to offer 3G service. Presently, 100 HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) hotspots have been set up for data access; Jakarta, Medan, Batam, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar will be the first cities to tap into the XL3G service. The total investment for XL3G is estimated at US$100 million.
